Holiday Cookies by Elisabet der Nederlanden
Holiday Cookies is packed with 50 modern recipes such as Red Velvet Crackle cookies, plus decorating and packaging tips.

Showstopping recipes to sweeten the season.

The smell of baking cookies can transport us, bringing back warm and spirited memories from the holiday season.

In the new book Holiday Cookies, author Elisabet Der Nederlanden shares 50 of her favorite memory-triggering recipes, from classics to modern confections, plus tips and tricks for baking, decorating and packaging them. (Keep your butter at room temperature to ensure a lighter-textured cookie.)

Der Nederlanden grew up in Sweden, where holiday celebrations last for weeks, and is now a food stylist and recipe developer in California. "For me, the best part of baking is not eating what emerges from the oven," she says. "Instead, it's the coming together of friends and family in a warm kitchen and creating something wonderful during a special time of year."

Below, try out three recipes from her book: Red Velvet Crackle Cookies, Icebox Pinwheel Cookies and Dark Chocolate-Hazelnut Fudge.

Find Holiday Cookies on Amazon or at a local bookshop near you.
