Winter Greens
In January hearty winter greens are some of the few things in season in Alabama. Photo by Scott Webb.

January is the month for hearty greens and sweet potatoes in Alabama. The in-season edibles are scarce during the winter, so pop open your jars of canned produce from seasons past or bags of frozen fruits and veggies to bulk up meals. Look for these at your local farmers market, fish monger or U-Pick.
